Asphalt Care - FAQ's

College Bound Sealers provides Asphalt Construction & sealcoating maintenance services, Rochester NY

FAQ's & Tips

Please bear in mind that although there are common questions related to projects, each project is unique. For the best guidance, we recommend reaching out to College Bound Sealers with any inquiries you may have. Our team is always ready to provide answers and offer helpful suggestions to enhance the appearance of your property.

How long should I stay off of the new pavement?

You must stay off the new pavement for at least 5-7 full days. If the temperatures are extremely hot and/or humid, stay off for longer. Asphalt is very soft and pliable for the first year after installation.

Make sure your car is in motion when you are turning the steering wheel. If it is not in motion, you will leave tire marks on the fresh asphalt.

Avoid using any jack stands, truck jacks, bicycle or motorcycle kickstands, lawn chairs, etc. on the blacktop as they will leave indentations.  If you park a camper, utility trailer or boat in your driveway, make sure you put a piece of wood under the jack/tongue to avoid this type of damage.

Do not let any commercial sized vehicles (delivery trucks) on your driveway for at least 1 year.

What if I spill stainable fluids on my new pavement?

Avoid spilling gasoline, anti-freeze, oil, brake or hydraulic fluid on your new pavement. The ingredients will eat through the asphalt. IF YOU DO HAVE A SPILL, make sure you immediately put "Dawn" dishwashing liquid on it, scrub lightly with a brush, and hose it off. Repeat as necessary until the area is clean.

What should I do about the edges of my new pavement?

The edges of the pavement are the weakest. You must backfill and exposed edges with topsoil and grass seed within 1 month of the driveway being installed. This will help alleviate the chances of edges breaking off if driven over.

Is a snowplowing service ok for my new pavement?

If you use a snowplowing service int the winter months, make sure they stake your blacktop driveway properly and do not push snow over the edges of your driveway.

How often should I have my pavement sealed?

We recommend sealing your new driveway in the Spring of the following year and every 2-3 years thereafter to maintain the pavement properly.
